Firstly, let me say that this is not an "official" Mills College project. I grew up at Mills as the son of faculty and staff members and over the years of living on campus I heard many ghost stories about the college and its buildings. Some I trust, others I think are the same urban legends that "haunt" any campus. One day I hope to put all the stories I have heard into some form to share with others, but for now I hope that others will contribute their tales.

My wife, herself a Mills alumna, has joined my project and encouraged me to continue seeking and gathering stories. A few years ago we put a notice in the Mills Quarterly ("Q") asking for tales of ghosts, hauntings and unnatural "experiences" at Mills. While no one sent stories, we did receive a number of requests to read them.Since then, at least one group has led a ghost story tour of the campus, so we're pretty sure there are more stories to be told.

You may notice as you read my version of the stories that they are not really scary or witten to frighten. That's true. I am aware of what others have told me, but I've never been scared of the ghosts at Mills. Infact I think the campus is a wonderful place to live and to explore. If others have had chilling experiences on campus, I'll be happy to share their stories on the site...that simply hasn't been my experience.

If you are a current or former member of the Mills community, please take a moment to send your thoughts about the campus and its ghosts. Be sure to explain your connection to Mills.

As stories come in, we will post them on this site for everyone to read and enjoy.

Thank you!
